Supporting student success

Since 2009, we’ve been granting bursaries and scholarships to graduating Elmwood High students to help them pursue their academic goals. We also periodically fund special projects for current students at the school.

Your gift of any size helps increase the opportunities for Elmwood students to succeed.

Bursaries

Each year we award bursaries to students based on financial need and other criteria. These bursaries help students with the significant tuition costs of post-secondary education at a vocational or academic institution.

The bursary fund is held with The Winnipeg Foundation and was established during Elmwood High’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2008. We thank our alumni for their foresight and generosity in establishing this fund for students.

Your donation to the fund ensures we can continue to make a difference in the lives of students.

Students: Contact the EHS Guidance Office for bursary information.

Scholarships

Creating a scholarship is a very meaningful way to leave a legacy while helping students to pursue higher education.

With a minimum contribution of $10,000 you will establish a scholarship with the Elmwood High School Legacy Fund. You can build your $10,000 over five years; your first scholarship is granted the year after the fund reaches this minimum level.

We can work with you to name and set the criteria for your scholarship.

All scholarships are held with The Winnipeg Foundation.

Students: Contact the EHS Guidance Office for bursary information.

The Albert John, Georgina & Edith Patricia Boughton Scholarship

The Albert John, Georgina and Edith Patricia Boughton Scholarship was established by the children of Pat Boughton to celebrate the lives of their grandparents and mother, who were long-time residents of Elmwood.

Edith Patricia (Pat) was a graduate of Lord Selkirk High School, the local high school prior to Elmwood High, and she was supportive of the University of Manitoba.

The Val and Ken Harder Memorial Scholarship

The Val Harder Memorial Scholarship was established in 2018 by Val’s husband Ken to commemorate her 36 years as a beloved Human Ecology teacher at Elmwood High. For many years, Val orchestrated the annual EHS fashion shows, and she worked to create wonderful memories for students.

The scholarship was renamed to include Ken upon his passing in 2025. He served on the Elmwood High Legacy Committee from 2016 to 2025 and was a kind and generous man in every aspect of his life.

The Babb Family Scholarship was created in 2023 by Mike Babb and his family, who have been supportive of the Legacy Fund since its inception. Mike retired in 2024 after serving nearly 20 years as principal and vice-principal of Elmwood High.

A long-time coach, Mike was inducted into the Manitoba High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame in 2019, and in 2021 he received a Manitoba 150 Honour in recognition of his exemplary community service.
